Your Perfect Custom Panties Available for 2 More Weeks

2 More Weeks for Custom Undies

You’ve got 2 weeks to place an order for custom panties before an 8 week hiatus. Which tshirts have you been holding on to for panties (or nostalgia :))? Had your eye on anything in the custom section of my Etsy shop? I’ll pull these items down on May 24th and you won’t see them again until July 25th.

Why July 25th?

In between now and then, I’ll be packing up La Vie en Orange to move to the Detroit area. (I’m going home. I can’t wait.)

I see London, but where is France?

Future panty print

That’s when the new korijock.com launches. And oh, what a launch it will be, with:

  • 1 big giveaway
  • 2 mini-collection launches – a bridal collection and city skylines collection (I see London, but where is France?)
  • A new trans*women style

As part of the move, we’re taking a much-anticipated road trip and spending 4-5 weeks on the road.

During that time, the sewing machines will be in storage and we’ll be spending a ton of time with family and friends and in National Parks. And posting fun things to facebook. The Underwear of the Month Club will continue unaffected and ready-to-ship items will still be available, though alterations will be delayed. We’ll land in Michigan towards mid-July and count down to July 25th – launch date! :)

How excited are you? Curious about the new look that’s coming? Here’s a little teaser

One more reminder:  if you’ve been thinking about ordering a custom item, do it now! They won’t be available after May 24th. :)

Spring Cleaning with the Underwear of the Month Club

Spring Cleaning with the Underwear of the Month Club – see the undies these tees make next week!

I need to take a moment to brag on my clients. Can I just tell you that La Vie en Orange has the best clients in the universe (that’s more than the world!) :)

For reals.

For this month’s Underwear of the Month Club, we are doing some spring cleaning- in February I sent each Club member an envelope to mail me an old tshirt for March’s undies. Each month I usually mail a pair of undies with a usually exclusive print for Club members only, but not while there’s spring cleaning to do! The packages I’ve gotten back for March’s undies have been filled with amazing tshirts (velvet letters, neon yellow, and goats, oh my!) and love letters for Upitees! I heard…

“I thought the coral ones with rocket ship were my favorite, then the blue ones with racer stripes came, and then the purple fish ones came… I love them all!”

“Thanks for your creativity and fabulous design!”

“I can’t wait to see what you do with this!”

Next week, pictures of the finished products, and a super exciting Spring Cleaning Sale just for you!

xoxo,
Kori

Happy New Year! I hope your 2013 is off to a great start!

I’m finally coming out of my holiday fuzz, and have great news!  I’m super excited to announce that we’re sending 67 pairs of Upitees to women’s shelters across the United States because of your amazing support and wonderfulness in November and December of 2012!

67!  That’s a lot of undies!

You might remember that in November & December of last year I offered a match for every purchase from my Etsy and korijock.com shops.  For every pair purchased by you (glorious, amazing, fabulous you!), I’m sending a  new pair of Upitees to a women’s shelter in your hometown/region.

So where are they headed?

La Vie en Orange clients purchased 67 pairs of Upitees in November and December 2012 sending 67 pairs of Upitees to women's shelters in their hometowns!

La Vie en Orange clients purchased 67 pairs of Upitees in November and December 2012 sending 67 pairs of Upitees to women’s shelters in their hometowns!

It all started in November of 2011 when I read a blog post from Seattle City Council member Sally Bagshaw about women’s shelters really needing new underwear at this time of year. Last year, together we sent over 20 pairs of undies around the country. This year, we more than tripled it!  SO AMAZING!

Thank you so much for helping make my 2012 so successful and for sharing the love with so many more women across the country.

Happy dances for all!

So how are you celebrating the New Year?  Please comment below- I’m looking forward to catching up! :)

Panty Party! And sale-ing turkeys!

A rainbow of undies awaited panty party guests

A rainbow of undies awaited panty party guests

Hello, dear Reader!

Panty Partying:

The past two weeks have been super busy.  Have you felt it too?  I hope you are excited for Thanksgiving weekend.  A little turkey, some friends or family?

Two of my dearest gal pals, one my sister-in-law in Portland and the other here in Seattle have hosted panty parties for me in the past 10 days!  It’s been amazing to get together with girls for drinks (La Vie en Rum Swizzle, the national drink of Bermuda), laughs, and the sale of my favorite unmentionables.  It’s not my normal business model and so it was really fun to see everyone dig into the undies.  I have loved everyone’s reactions to the bright colors and quirky prints.  Sigh.  :)

It also felt a little vulnerable, but I’ve learned a lot too.  I got some great feedback on sizes which I’m still processing, amazing ideas for future prints (think fuzzy letters), and enough warm fuzzies to power the train back up from Portland.  Plus I racked up some sales that will ensure some lovely ladies in women’s shelters receive undies later this year or early next (read about that here).  It’s a two-fer!

If you’re in the greater Seattle area and interested in hosting a panty party, let’s talk :)

And now on to the Thanksgiving weekend and holiday shipping Public Service Announcement :)

Sale-ing!

I need a nautical print to insert here… Maybe this summer I’ll bust out an anchor or big ship steering wheel?  :)  This is the best Google Images could do for “nautical turkey.”

Glorious sales over Thanksgiving weekend.  Now, we all know that part of my shtick making undies out of thrifted tshirts is that I’m not a fan of consumption that isn’t thoughtful (maybe you’ve read my manifesto?).  That said, I love giving a thoughtful gift.  And receiving one too.  And with the biggest shopping weekend of the year coming up, I wanted to share some love in case you find yourself shopping and needing some undies, or falling allover yourself to give a pair to share :)

Sheltering bottoms

Underwear for you and underwear for someone in your hometown!

This November and December, I’ll be matching every purchase from my Etsy and korijock.com shops by sending a  new pair of Upitees to a women’s shelter in your hometown/region for every pair you purchase.

I’m super excited to have kicked off with a house party in Portland this weekend (more on that next week!)- I’ll be sending 5 pairs of undies that way later this year or early next :)

It all started last November when I read a blog post from Seattle City Council member Sally Bagshaw about women’s shelters really needing new underwear at this time of year.

It’s not about ending homelessness or domestic violence, but it is about giving back and making something special for someone special.  Sharing my talents how I can while making an impact on an individual level in your hometown feels like a great way to celebrate the holidays.  All those holidays. :)

So, after your purchase I’ll follow up to see if there’s a special organization you’d like me to send the donation to in your name (I’ll cc you on letter I send them).  If not, I’ll do some research, and either way your purchase will ensure that another special woman in your area also receives a pair of Upitees this winter.

What do you think? Let’s chat in the comments section below.

xoxo

Free ftm packing underwear

11/7/12 Update:  Thank you to the volunteers who came forward to be fit models!  I have all the fit models I need and look forward to launching the ftm packing underwear later this year.  Stay tuned!

Looking for a free pair of packing underwear?  You are in the right place!

A sneak peek at the first ever ftm packing Upitee prototype!

I am looking for a few fit models (no photos required) to help me make sure my new packing undies are up to snuff. Do you use a soft or stp packer on a regular basis?  Do you want a free pair of underwear? Are you very close to any of the measurements sets listed below? Are you willing to share feedback with me about how they fit? (That’s a lot of questions!) Yes, yes, yes and yes? Hooray! I’d love to send you a pair!

And, just in case this is your first visit, Hi.  I’m Kori.  I make your new favorite undies out of your old favorite tshirt and thrifted tshirts too.  They’re nostalgic, they’re eco-friendly, and they’ll make your underwear drawer smile! My packing undies are pretty badass- two fit models have already raved about them and now that I’m getting closer to offering them alongside the boy-cut-for-girls styles in my Etsy shop, I need your help.  For more about what I do, check out this post :)

I’m looking for 3 fit models for a stp packer style brief and 3 fit models for a soft packer style brief. I have a list of questions specific to their fit I’d ask you to answer after you take the undies for a spin:  things like how you like the cut, how the elastic strap that holds the packer in place works, etc.

Stripes peeking out the pee hole!  I’m offering two styles- one for stp packers, and one for soft packers

I’ll take your feedback and incorporate any changes that need to be made before starting production on these models. You will help make Upitees even more accessible!

Think you were made for this job? Have any questions?  Let me know! Send an email to koriel.jock [at] gmail [dot] com, or comment below and I’ll look forward to following up!

The underwear (lovingly called Upitees) will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis in the next week or so. I’ll hope to have your initial feedback within a week of your receiving them. Thank you so much!

Sizing
I’m still figuring out what to call my sizes.  For now, please bear with me and use the chart below.  Measurements are best, and your hip measurement around your fullest part is the most important one.  See below for more on taking your measurements.

Size 23/0 – Waist 23″/58.5 cm, hips 33.5″/85 cm
Size 24/2 – Waist 24″/61 cm, hips 34.5″/87.5 cm
Size 25/4 – Waist 25″/63.5 cm, hips 35.5″/90 cm
Size 26/6 – Waist 26″/66 cm, hips 36.5″/92.5 cm
Size 28/8 – Waist 28″/71 cm, hips 38.5″/98 cm
Size 29/10 – Waist 29.5″/75 cm, hips 40″/101.5 cm
Size 31/12 – Waist 31″/79 cm, hips 41.5″/105.5 cm
Size 32/14 – Waist 32.5″/82.5 cm, hips 43″/109 cm
Size 34/16 – Waist 34.5″/87.5 cm, hips 45″/114.5 cm

If any of these match up with your measurements, let me know! I’d love your help spreading the word too :)

To get your measurements, measure your waist at your smallest part, and your hips at your largest (which is probably more like your bum, :) and is usually about 8″/20 cm below your waist). If you don’t have a measuring tape you can hold a shoelace, piece of ribbon or string, or a laptop cord, around yourself and measure it with a flat ruler to get the actual measurement. Make sense? Just make sure not to stretch said shoelace, ribbon, string or cord. See the photo below of Louloubelle to get an idea (I don’t have a Louis dress form yet…  Thanks for your understanding :)). I can’t bind her, and she doesn’t have any booty (she just can’t help it!) but if she did, it would be near where the lower arrows are  :)

Check out the arrows to get an idea of where your waist and hips should be measured.

Not Your Average Granny Panties: A Tale of Custom Underwear

Grammie's nightgowns

January and Gwen had special plans for Grammie’s nightgowns

Have you ever had a good idea, and then someone else piggy backs on it into the stratosphere? Best feeling ever!

I love the nostalgia of making your new favorite underwear out of your old favorite tshirt, but twin sisters Gwen and January reached out with an even more touching and special idea.

Gwen explains:  ”In late July my dearest grandmother (“Grammie” as we called her) passed away. My entire family went up to say our goodbyes and go through all her belongings. We sat in a hotel going through her pants, shirts, and nightgowns crying as we looked at each piece. When my sister picked up one of Grammie’s favorite nightgowns and cried because they still smelled like her, I knew we had to hold onto these special pieces of clothing. My sisters and I remembered her wearing these special garments and just could not part with giving all of them to Goodwill. But they were old fashioned nightgowns and not a size that we could wear.

Animal print shirt and underwear

Grammie’s animal print shirt turned into some seriously special granny panties

“Then I remembered Kori’s site on Etsy ‘Underwear out of your favorite old t-shirt shirt.’ She advertised that she could make underwear out of your own personal shirts. I just knew we had to try to do this. Our Grammie always recycled and reused things (and was constantly on us about doing the same) so what better way to honor her then to recycle her nightgowns and shirts into pieces her granddaughters could wear for a long time.”

Grammie and January at a 2006 Halloween party

Grammie and January at a 2006 Halloween party

January continues:  ”Kori was very sensitive to what we were wanting to accomplish. She was very sweet and willing to turn our Grammie’s cherished items into fantastic underwear that my sister and I could wear for a long time. When I received my first pair it was better then I had ever imagined. I knew the moment when I put them on that my Grammie was looking down on me and so proud. Not only would her memory live on in the underwear, but the fact that we recycled something would have made her even more proud.”

January called me “the underwear angel that was sent to our family when we were in need of uplifting. Seeing what she did with my Grammie’s underwear has brought a smile and happiness to us when we needed it the most!”

Acorn shirt and granny panties

Gwen was excited about this pair being done in time for Halloween- Grammie loved the holiday and often wore this shirt in the fall.

I couldn’t have imagined a more touching and special project.  It meant so much to me to be a part of this process with January and Gwen.  I was so honored that they would trust me with their beloved Grammie’s nightgowns.

I loved opening the packages with the nightgowns and hearing about Gwen and January’s memories of their grandmother.  To be invited into this journey of grief and joy felt like a gift.  It was around the same time that I lost a mentor, and working on this project for Gwen and January helped me grieve Gary and celebrate his life the way January and Gwen were grieving for and celebrating their Grammie.

Gwen and January's Grammie panties

It’s like the Brady Bunch of undies!

To January and Gwen:  thank you for inviting me to be a part of something so meaningful in your lives.  I’m beyond thrilled by your response and my heart smiles thinking about your Grammie looking down on you.

To you, dear Reader, if this story strikes a chord or if undies that honor someone’s life and preserve their clothing get you thinking, please comment below or be in touch via email at koriel.jock [at] gmail.com.
